The Granicus Encoding Appliance allows you to distribute and stream your meetings both live and on-demand. This topic describes how encoders work, and provides links to procedures you would follow when you work with them.
You can manage your encoders on the Encoder subtab in MediaManager Admin.
How Encoders Work
During the meeting, audio and video are captured as an analog signal. That signal is then transferred to the encoder via a mixer. The encoder converts the analog signal into a digital signal and then transfers the output file to the Granicus DataCenter. The DataCenter then duplicates and distributes your audio and video content to citizens. While broadcasting a live event, the encoder can archive your broadcasts for on-demand viewing at a later time.
When creating new encoders or editing the properties for an existing encoder, always work in the Encoder subtab instead of the Encoders menu on the Admin homepage.
Note: The encoder’s status should always be Encoding.
Note: The Recording status should either be Recording or Stopped, depending on whether a meeting is currently running or not.
