Creating a New Encoder

Tip for Success! Select the encoder and click Edit to edit an existing encoder’s properties; skip to the section Entering and Editing Basic Properties for your Encoder.

  1. Click the Encoders subtab.

  2. Click New.

  1. Confirm the Basic Properties for New Encoder page opens.

  2. Enter an Encoder Name.

  3. Select the Stream Type from the drop-down menu.

  4. Click Create

Entering and Editing Basic Properties for Your Encoder

  1. Confirm the Basic Encoder Properties for “Encoder Name” Encoder page opens.

    Note: If the page does not automatically load, click the Basic subtab to open the Basic Encoder properties for “Encoder Name” Encoder page.

  2. Enter the information in the assigned fields. These fields are described below:

    SettingDescription
    Encoder NameThis is the name given to your encoder when the initial properties are set
    Short NameThe encoder identifier; do not change
    Stream TypeIdentifies whether the stream is Pull (Granicus pulls the stream from the client) or push (the client sends out the stream to Granicus)
    Content TypeThe encoder’s designated purpose: Meeting, Training, Traffic, or Other
    External Hostname /IPThe IP address that external servers use to connect to your encoder
    Internal Hostname /IPThe IP address that internal servers use to connect to your encoder
    Broadcast PortThe port the encoder uses for sending streaming content to the Granicus DataCenter or internet users depending on the hosting arrangement made with Granicus. The Broadcast Port and Control Port must be separate ports
    Control PortThe port the encoder uses to communicate with the Granicus DataCenter. The Broadcast Port and Control Port must be separate ports
    24/7 BroadcastingAllows the content from the encoder to be available 24 hours a day on the website
    H.264 EncoderDetermines whether this is an H.264 encoder; do not change this setting 
    Enable MonitoringDetermines whether the encoder will send alerts to the Granicus internal monitoring service
    Player TemplateThe default template that is seen when someone views the live broadcast from the encoder
    Time LimitThe amount of time you have to view a stream
  3. Click Save.
