To ensure web browsing is secure when using the Firmstep Platform, we only support certain browsers and Transport Layer Security (TLS).

Supported Browsers

For front-end services (e.g. citizens self-serving), the Firmstep platform supports all major web browsers that are still supported by their manufacturers. It is not realistic to test all possible devices and browser versions when releasing product updates, so some functionality (for example, date selectors) may display differently on different devices or browser versions.

For our clients administering the platform (e.g. designing forms or operating Customer Service Hub), please use the most recent browser version of Chrome or Edge.

Note: It is possible to use the token {user_agent} in your forms to generate a string which can be decoded to reveal browser information for the user filling the request. You can then use this to display a message if users are utilizing unsupported browsers.

Supported Mobile Browsers

The Firmstep platform supports the latest versions of the following browsers on mobile devices:

Safari Safari for iOS devices.

chromeChrome for Android devices.

Upgrading your browser

Please update your browser to ensure that you can access all of our websites. Upgrading to a newer browser will also improve the security of your computer, the speed of your browsing, and the functionality of many other websites.

How to upgrade

For computers:

Browser installation instructions:

For mobile devices:

You can

  • get help from Apple to update your iOS device and configure automatic updates for your browser app, and
  • check your settings for system updates for Android devices.

Transport Layer Security (TLS)

Support for TLS 1.0 and 1.1 was removed from our load balancers on 12/03/2020. This is for security reasons. Any browser that doesn’t support TLS 1.2 will no longer be supported.

Some integrations may have been effected if not using TLS1.2 - if you see the error  "Authentication failed because the remote party has closed the transport stream"

The solution is to switch to LIM14  - though ultimately it is advisable to upgrade to TLS1.2
