What is Staff Portal?
As well as an externally facing Customer Portal site for citizens, govService has an internal transactional portal for staff: Staff Portal. Staff Portal is designed to complement an intranet site in the same way that Customer Portal provides the transactional capability for a static website. (Staff Portal is derived from the govService Customer Portal which was initially created to provide single-sign on and a rich transactional experience to citizens. It quickly became clear that a similar portal for staff could provide tremendous value.)

The design is clean, simple and modern, and has been engineered to be popular with staff, easy-to-use and extensible to any govService forms, workflow, and data the council wish to present to staff. This means it is ideally suited to back office staff who may not be familiar with the more detailed and complex customer records held within Service.
The main features of Staff Portal include:
- A powerful ‘My Tasks’ area where staff can track submissions, both historical and in progress, and see anything they are responsible for delivering, including reminders and clear SLA dates.
- A central location for internal forms and workflow to be published to staff. (ideal for inclusion on Intranet)
- Attractive and simple mobile responsive design with access to modify the ‘branding’ to suit the council (usually to match-up the look with the intranet).
- A ‘My Accounts’ area which can be hooked into other council back-office systems
- A flexible single-sign on mechanism which can be setup with Active Directory and web logins
How do staff benefit?
- Authentication and tracking of current and historical forms staff have submitted, and a clear simple view of all work assigned to them.
- Attractive, feature-rich and easy-to-use encouraging staff to use the portal and reducing training.
- Pre-population of forms from the staff user profile and potentially Active Directory.
- ActiveDirectory and web log in options allowing staff to work from the office, home and remotely (web logins have a self-service password reset).
- Staff Portal is fully mobile responsive out of the box, allowing staff to use any internet enabled device.
- ‘My Accounts’ and the underlying Customer Index allow the joining of staff accounts to any other back-office solutions, so staff can access personalized information.
